Albanese lends support to Woolworths Fresh Food Rescue Campaign 2010
The Hon Anthony Albanese MP
The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport,
Regional Development and Local Government
Leader of the House
Member for Grayndler
February 22 2010
Anthony Albanese, Federal Member for Grayndler, today lent his support to the Fresh Food Rescue Campaign for 2010 - the annual campaign run by Woolworths supermarkets to support food relief charities by donating surplus food to help provide healthy nutritious meals for the homeless and those in need.
In 2010 Woolworths hopes to donate in excess of 1.8 million kilos of consumable food to provide 2 million meals to those in need. Additionally, $2 million in cash donations will also be provided by the company to help food relief charities build capacity and cope with increased demands on their services.
The Australian Government will partner with Woolworths to advise on the allocation of the funding.
‘This is a fantastic initiative by Woolworths to try and help some of the most disadvantaged in our communities,’ Anthony said.
Local charities in the Inner West may be eligible for funding under this grant scheme, or for the receipt of surplus food stocks. Further details will soon be released by Woolworths, but further information can be sought from contacting: freshfoodrescue@woolworths.com.au
‘I implore all local and food relief charities to get involved in the process and make contact with Woolworths, to try and obtain support in a time of greater demand on their services.’
